Description

This pseudo diary film is made of found materials from an unfinished 16mm film. Potenciais à Deriva is a film started by a Brazilian artist under a pseudonym while living in exile in Los Angeles, California. Isolated shots and previously assembled scenes reveal an intention to create a mysterious film comprised of disembodied interviews, empty rooms, radio recordings, soccer games, and sudden apparitions of the filmmaker that slowly ruminates on Brazil's colonial past, North American Imperialism and the military dictatorship of the time in a paranoid and anxious manner. 

Be aware that the film's final version never came to exist. This version presented is my mere attempt to produce a film with these otherwise lost images.

이 익명의 일기 영화는 완성되지 못한 16mm 필름에서 찾아낸 자료들로 제작되었다. '표류하는 가능성'은 브라질 예술가가 익명으로 캘리포니아 로스앤젤레스에서 망명 생활을 하며 시작한 작품이다. 분절된 샷과 이전에 만들어진 장면들은 신비한 영화를 만들려는 의도를 드러내며, 그 내용에는 분리된 인터뷰, 빈 방들, 라디오 녹음, 축구 경기, 그리고 갑작스런 영화제작자의 출현이 포함되어 있다. 이 영화는 점진적으로 브라질의 식민지 과거, 북미 제국주의, 그리고 당시의 군사 독재 정권에 대해 거리낌과 불안에 가득 찬 시선을 보낸다. 

영화의 최종 버전은 존재하지 않았는다는 점을 알린다. 여기 이 버전은 잃어버린 이미지로 영화를 제작하려는 나의 단순한 시도이다.

Bio

Leonardo Pirondi is a Brazilian-Portuguese filmmaker. His films explore the infinite abyss between the multiple derived versions of reality through non-conventional structures of documentary, experimental, and narrative modes. Much of his work uses analog film techniques to create, inhabit, and document worlds that explore sociopolitical unfoldings between history, imagination, myth, and technology.

His films have been exhibited worldwide, including the Tiger Short Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, New York Film Festival, Viennale, BFI London, Melbourne, Edinburgh, Guanajuato, Slamdance, True/False, Ambulante, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, EMAF and others. Some of his films exist in the UCLA Film & Television Archive collection and the Cinematheque of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. He holds a Film/Video degree from CalArts, is a Sundance Institute Fellow, and has received the Allan Sekula Social Documentary Fund and Tim Disney Prize for Excellence in the Storytelling Arts.

레오나르도 피론디는 브라질-포르투갈 출신의 영화감독으로, 그의 작품들은 비전통적인 문서화, 실험적 접근, 서술적 방식의 구조를 통해 현실의 다양한 버전 사이의 무한한 심연을 탐구한다. 그는 주로 아날로그 필름 기법을 활용하여 역사, 상상력, 신화, 기술 등의 사회적-정치적 상호작용을 담은 세계를 창조하고 기록한다. 그의 영화는 로테르담 영화제(타이거 단편 경쟁), 뉴욕 영화제, 비엔날레, BFI 런던, 멜버른, 에딘버러, 과나후아토, 슬램댄스, True/False, 앰뷸란테, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, EMAF 등에서 상영되었다. 작품 중 일부는 UCLA 영화 & TV 아카이브 콜렉션과 리우데자네이루 현대미술관의 시네마테크에 소장되었다. 그는 칼아츠에서 영화/비디오 학위를 받았으며, 썬댄스 인스티튜트 펠로우로 선정되었으며, 앨런 세쿨라 사회 문서화 기금과 팀 디즈니 스토리텔링 예술 우수상을 수상했다.
