Description

Jirapo is a nest of stingless native bees, present in tropical territories since before the European invasion of the Americas. During one of her field trips, Laura discovers several of these nests in the human graves of her ancestors. Beeswax - glow - nest - darkness: a spiral that questions the relationships between human death, the body, violence, resistance, and sweetness.

'지라포'는 침 없는 토종 벌들의 둥지를 뜻하며, 유럽이 아메리카 대륙을 침략하기 전부터 열대 지역에 존재해 왔다. 라우라는 현장 조사를 하던 중, 자신의 조상들이 묻힌 무덤에서 이런 둥지들을 여러 개 발견한다. 벌집의 밀랍, 은은한 빛, 둥지, 그리고 어둠. 영화는 이 소용돌이 속에서 인간의 죽음과 신체, 폭력, 저항, 그리고 달콤함 사이에 맺어진 관계에 질문을 던진다.

Bio

MARÍA ROJAS ARIAS is a filmmaker, visual artist, and producer. She was selected as a filmmaker for Berlinale Talents Berlin in 2020. Her film ABRIR MONTE (2021) was awarded the Short Joy prize at Ji.lhava and Best Short Film at the Valdivia IFF and Kinoforum Brazil. She was a MacDowell Fellow in 2024. In 2026, she premiered her short films JIRAPO at CPH:DOX and FILME PIN, co-directed with Andrés Jurado, at the 76th Berlinale.

마리아 로하스 아리아스는 영화감독이자 시각예술가, 프로듀서이다. 2020년 베를린국제영화제의 인재 육성 프로그램인 Berlinale Talents Berlin에 선정되었다. 그의 작품《Abrir Monte》(2021)는 이흘라바 국제다큐멘터리영화제(Ji.hlava)에서 Short Joy 상을 수상했으며, 발디비아 국제영화제와 브라질 키노포럼(Kinoforum)에서 최우수 단편영화상을 받았다. 2024년에는 맥도웰 펠로(MacDowell Fellow)로 선정되었다. 2026년에는 단편영화《Jirapo》를 코펜하겐 국제다큐멘터리영화제(CPH:DOX)에서 처음 공개했으며, 안드레스 후라도와 공동 연출한《Filme Pin》은 제76회 베를린국제영화제에서 초연되었다.
