Description

Mounds Above the Earth contemplates ecological cycles, perception, and environmental transformation, anchored in the rare emergence of two periodical cicada broods surfacing simultaneously for the first time in more than two centuries. The film follows the flicker of red—echoing the cicadas’ developing eyes, the blood moon, and a personal journey of vision correction.

지구 위의 언덕들은 생태학적 순환과 지각, 그리고 환경의 변화를 사유하는 작품으로, 200여 년 만에 처음으로 두 주기매미 무리가 동시에 지표면으로 올라온 드문 현상에 초점을 맞춘다. 영화는 매미의 발달 중인 붉은 눈, 블러드 문, 그리고 개인의 시력 교정 여정을 나란히 환기하는 붉은 빛의 깜빡임을 따라 흘러간다.

Bio

Jiayi Chen works in analog film, projection performance, and time-based installation. Her works have been exhibited and screened internationally, including International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Cineteca Madrid, Spain; Fracto, Berlin, Germany; Antimatter, Victoria, Canada; the8fest, Toronto, Canada; Harkat, Mumbai, India; New York Film Festival, New York; Anthology Film Archives, New York; MONO NO AWARE, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago; and Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago.

천자이는 아날로그 필름, 프로젝션 퍼포먼스, 시간 기반 설치 미술을 중심으로 활동하는 작가다. 그의 작품은 네덜란드 로테르담 국제영화제, 스페인 시네테카 마드리드, 독일 베를린 프락토(Fracto), 캐나다 빅토리아 안티매터(Antimatter), 토론토 디에잇페스트(the8fest), 인도 뭄바이 하르카트(Harkat) 등에서 상영 및 전시되었다. 또한 미국 뉴욕 영화제, 앤솔러지 필름 아카이브, 모노 노 아와레(MONO NO AWARE), 휴스턴 미술관, 시카고 문화센터, 시카고 현대미술관 등 세계 각지의 기관을 통해 관객과 만나왔다.
