Description
The past of Myanmar is presented in three chapters: first, research on the stuffed animals at the Yangon Zoological Garden, where we can see the shadow of British Imperialism; second, research on the Yangon Circle Line Train, an old machine that moves in a circle, similar to the way the country repeats itself; and finally, research on Myanmar’s museum of propaganda, a place where absurdity and hopelessness co-exist.
미얀마의 과거는 세 장으로 나누어 소개된다. 첫째, 영국 제국주의의 그림자를 엿볼 수 있는 양곤 동물원의 박제 연구, 둘째, 국가 자체가 반복하는 방식과 유사하게 움직이는, 원을 그리며 움직이는 오래된 양곤 순환선 열차에 대한 연구이다. 마지막으로 부조리와 절망이 공존하는 미얀마의 프로파간다 박물관에 대한 연구이다.
Bio
Prapat Jiwarangsan is a visual artist from Thailand. In his creative explorations, he incorporates a variety of media, particularly photography, slides, and videos, to investigate and represent the relationships between history, memory, and politics in Thailand – especially in relation to the theme of migration. Jiwarangsan has spent the last six years making artwork that tackles the issues faced by migrant workers, a notable result of which is Ploy, which won the Best EXiS Award in 2022.
프라팟 지와랑산은 태국 출신의 시각 예술가이다. 작품 창작 과정에서 그는 특히 사진, 슬라이드 및 비디오 등 다양한 매체를 활용하여 태국의 역사, 기억, 정치와의 관계를 조사하고 재현한다. 그는 특히 이주라는 주제와 관련하여 이들 요소들을 탐구한다. 지와랑산은 지난 6년간 이주 노동자들이 직면한 문제들을 다룬 작품을 제작해 왔으며, 그 중 주목할 만한 결과물 중 하나가 2022년 EXiS 최우수상을 수상한 작품 'Ploy'이다.
