Description

It's an ordinary day in the game Grand Theft Auto V: The streets are crowded with cars; people follow their routines, barbecue in their gardens or sunbath on the beach. And yet the game world is marked by a grave absence: a missing future that was suspended out of safety concerns. Unable to name the void, protagonist Edgar follows the traces of what is missing in the algorithm of his reality. Exploring the uncanniness of his normality, he rediscovers a beautiful yet nightmarish world.

그랜드 테프트 오토 V 게임 속에서는 보통의 날이 펼쳐진다. 거리에는 차가 많이 달리고 있고, 사람들은 일상적인 생활을 하며 정원에서 바비큐를 하거나 해변에서 일광욕을 한다. 하지만 게임 세계는 중대한 결여로 특징 지워지는데, 안전 문제로 중단돼 미래가 사라진 것이다. 공허를 이름 지을 수 없던 주인공 에드가는 현실의 알고리즘에서 무엇이 빠져 있는지 그 흔적을 쫓아본다. 일상의 불가사의함을 탐구하며, 그는 아름다우면서도 악몽 같은 세계를 새롭게 발견한다.

The pseudo-marxist media guerilla Total Refusal explores and practices strategies for artistic intervention in contemporary video games. It works with tools of appropriation and rededication of game resources. Their films and performances were presented among others at Berlinale ‘20, Locarno 22 and at the MoMA in NYC and they have received more than 46 international and national awards and honorary mentions
